one way to turn a value prop into a hook


Showing your target audience what benefits they gain from your product/service often starts from showing them what problem it can solve.

So when it comes to translating your product/services value prop into a hook, I'd think about it like this:

If this is the benefit, what's the problem it solves?

I've written countless hooks for posts on social now.

The best ones always resonate with a real and painful problem, which I then go on to show the reader the solution inside the post.

Here's a recent example for you.

One of the benefits of my course The Digital Copywriter is that it helps you to stand out on LinkedIn through improving your social copywriting skills.

The pain point that solves is...struggling to stand out on LinkedIn because of the increased amount of content being posted.

But I don't start the post with:

'My course helps you stand out on LinkedIn'.

I start the post with:

'Everyone's saying it's never been harder to stand out because more people are creating content on LinkedIn than ever before.'

This naturally attracts people with the pain point my product/service solves.

Then as the reader continues reading, they find a solution to end the post. It's valuable in it's own right.

And if they click to my LinkedIn profile from there or visit my website, they'll find my course there to consider diving into to help them further.

So, to recap:

1. Identify the benefit

2. Reverse it and identify the problem it solves

3. Write your hook calling out that problem

4. Provide your solution to that problem at the end of the post

Turn your benefit into a problem.

Use that to hook your target audience in.

I put podcasts on 1.5x speed when I run. I like to keep fit and healthy and I'm challenging myself to hit 100 runs in 2024. So I run about 3 x per week. But every time I run, I listen to a podcast and I put it on 1.5x speed. Why? Because time is of the essence. If I'm out running for 27-38 minutes and the podcast I'm listening to is 63 minutes long, I wanna be finishing it or at least listening to the bulk of it.
